Hello Champions! My name is Laura Thai-Jenkins.  I am the staff development teacher at Oak View.  I am so excited to be a part of the Oak View family.  I grew up in Gaithersburg and lived in Montgomery County my whole life.  I always knew I wanted to work with kids so I attended Towson University to get my Early Childhood Education Degree and then continued school so that I can be certified to teach Pre-K through 8 graders.  I’ve taught 1st and 5th grade prior to becoming a staff development teacher.  I love all subjects in school but my favorite is math and science.  I love the challenge of trying to find answers to difficult puzzles or a different way to solve a problem.  I hope that my excitement for teaching and learning is felt by those around me, especially the students because there is so much we can learn from each other.

In my free time I enjoy being with my family who keep me very busy every day.  My three boys are very active in sports (soccer, baseball, swimming, and karate) and we volunteer on a farm each week to care for the goats, chickens and pigs.  It’s a stinky job but the chickens pay us in yummy eggs each week so it’s worth all the hard work.  My favorite sport to watch is hockey and my favorite team is the Washington Capitals.  During hockey season, you will often catch me “Rocking the Red” to support my team.
