Gr. 5 Unit 5 / Math A Unit 3 ~ Rotations

Clockwise Rotations

Students copy a simple design on their geoboard, making sure that one point touches the center point. Students then explore rotating clockwise and counterclockwise 90º. Having students rotate the actual geoboard 90º before recording the rotated figure on the geodot paper makes it easier for students. A few students will be able to see and record rotational symmetry, but most will have to look at the rotated geoboard before recording.

Counterclockwise Rotation

360 degree Rotation
Students can continue rotating until they have a
design that has been rotated 360º.
