Converting yards, feet and inches Students in Ms. Schaeffer's class make models to scale of conversions between yards, feet and inches. Their models stretched down the hallway. Because the students measured and constructed the models themselves, they are more likely to retain the knowledge, as opposed to simply memorizing the conversions.
yards, feet, inches
This is part of a representation in which students converted to 10 yards. Here, the students show that 8 yards = 24 feet = 252 inches.

Convert meter, dm, cm
Students also made models of Metric length conversions, relating meters to decimeters and centimeters.
meters, dm, cm
These students show that 2 meters = 20 decimeters = 200 centimeters.

Indicators:

3.5.2.2 select and use appropriate tools and units to measure objects.

3.6.2.2 compare, convert, and estimate units of measure of length, time, weight, mass, capacity, and volume within the same measurement system.
