Equivalent Fractions
Equivalent Fractions Students in fourth grade used fraction circles to identify mixed numerals (such as 2 2/4), improper fractions (such as 10/4). Students also identified equivalent fractions (6/4 = 1 2/4) and compared fractions ( 3/4 > 4/8). The power of using the fraction circles is that the students incorporate so many indicators into one lesson. They are able to connect improper fractions to mixed numerals to equivalent fractions as they compare the value of the fractional values.
