Students in Ms. Apo's, Ms. Shuster's and Ms. Flory's classes were identifying the attributes of geometric solids from 3-dimensional models and from 2-dimensional drawings. They identified the number of edges, vertices and faces of various solids such as rectangular pyramids and cubes. As a preview of indicators in Fifth Grade and Math A, the students experimented with drawing the geometric solids on the virtual isometric geoboard. Students used 3-dimensional models, focusing of the edges and the vertices, to translate the solids to a 2-dimensional drawing. When guiding students, have them focus on the edges of the solids they can see and the vertices they can see. Some students, like the ones who made these drawings, can translate the solids into drawings immediately; others struggle. Teaming students up and having student coaches to assist allows more students to be successful.
