factors

Indicator: 6.4.3.2 find factors of numbers.

Students in Ms. Shuster's class use 24 linker cubes to find all of the arrays (rectangles) that can be made using all 24 linker cubes. They record each of the arrays on the grid paper. The dimensions of the arrays are all of the factors of 24.

prime numbers

Indicator: 6.5.3.1 identify prime and composite
numbers less than 100.

Through the same activity, students can be introduced to the concepts of prime and composite numbers. Prime numbers, like 5, form only one array with 1 as a factor. Composite numbers, like 24, form two or more arrays.
