Below, students illustrate fact families using unifix cubes, ten frames and twenty frames. The more students can relate addition and subtraction as inverse operations, the better they are at solving many types of word problems. Fact families also allow many students to master their basic addition and subtraction facts better than if addition and subtraction are taught in isolation. |
