Geometric Patterns

Indicators:

1.1.1.1 recognize, describe, extend, and create repeating patterns using models.

1.1.1.2 copy, continue, and record patterns with actions, words, and objects; translate a pattern into another form.
Students in Ms. Bensman's class use pattern blocks to create geometric patterns. They make a pictorial representation of their pattern. Students circle the unit of the pattern which refers to the elements that repeat. The students then translate the geometric pattern to a letter pattern. These students have created ABCC, AAB, ABC and AB patterns.
