Homophones
Homophones: Words that sound the same, are spelled differently and have different meanings.

Homonyms
Homonyns: Words that are spelled the same, sound the same, but have different meanings
Homograph
Homographs: Words that are spelled the same, sound different, and have different meanings.
Third grade classes explore homophones, homographs and homonyms, all of which cause challenges for spelling and for meaning. As students study these groups of words, their vocabularies grow and their reading comprehension improves. Third grade students chose word pairs, and then illustrated them and wrote sentences to master the meanings.
