Professional Development School ~ OTES/Towson University

A Professional Development School (PDS) is a collaboratively planned and implemented partnership between MCPS and Institutions of Higher Education. The purpose of the PDS is the clinical preparation of interns and the continuous professional development of both the school system and the institutions of higher learning.

OTES is a PDS school and shares a partnership with Towson University. The student interns from Towson graduate with a dual certification in general education and special education. This year we have six senior interns working at Oakland Terrace. In the fall, they worked one or two days a week in their assigned rooms, however, in the spring they will be working a full five days a week with their mentor teachers.

Each day the interns are collaborating with our teachers to implement lessons that truly target our students and provide a wide variety of educational experiences. These young teachers have bonded with our students and our community and are displaying real commitment to the most effective instruction for our students here at OTES. As our interns near their professional goal, we thank them for their dedication to our students and to our school.

In addition, juniors from Towson arrived in second, third and fifth grades to assist with math and science instruction. We welcome these seventeen new faces to OTES and we value their service to our school and our students.
