The Wellness Center is committed to helping students in the school community reach their full potential by offering coordinated medical care, quality counseling, positive youth development, and health education experiences in a confidential and culturally sensitive manner.

Wellness Center Services

Student Health Services

The Northwood High School Wellness Center offers easily accessible onsite health services at no cost to all students that
attend Northwood High School. Services include diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems, sports
physicals, comprehensive physical exams, immunizations, lab services, confidential health counseling, health education,
assistance with health insurance and community health care resource access and case management. The health services
team includes a nurse practitioner, pediatrician, registered nurse and certified nursing assistant. Current hours of operation
for health services are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Clinic appointments with our nurse practitioner
and/or pediatrician occur throughout the school day on Mondays and Wednesdays and part of the school day on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays.

Positive Youth Development After-School Programs

Multicultural Youth Lead (MY Lead) Program offers students an opportunity to earn student service learning hours through the development and implementation of a community service project. MY Lead meets on Thursdays.

Identity/Be Yourself Programprovides programs for Latino youth to help them achieve a sense of confidence, connection, and control over their lives by focusing on leadership, communication, teamwork, and goal setting. Be Yourself meets on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Adolescent Female Forum to Inspire, Respect, & Motivate (AFFIRM) Program is a positive sisterhood network that promotes the expression of ideas and aspires to build self-confidence, self-worth and a sense of accomplishment in young women. AFFIRM meets on Wednesdays.

Adolescent Male Empowerment Network (AMEN) Program is a brotherhood where young men have a healthy and safe place to express themselves concerning relatable real life issues such as how to resolve conflict, how to handle negative peer pressure, and setting and pursuing personal goals. AMEN meets on Mondays.

Our Specialty Programs and Clubs

Distinguished Gentlemen (DG) Program targets students who completed the AMEN, Be Yourself, and MY Lead programs in addition to any new students referred to the WC. The group focuses on the importance of identifying future goals and developing an action plan for accomplishing them. DG meets on Wednesdays.

Divine Divas Program targets young ladies that have completed the AFFIRM, Be Yourself, and MY Lead programs. The program focuses on issues affecting young ladies and includes a service project. Divine Divas meet on Tuesdays.

Realistic Employment Approaches for Diverse Youth (READY) Program focuses on job readiness skills. Sessions include resume writing, how to apply for a job, interviewing skills, guest speakers, teamwork within the work place, punctuality, attendance, positive acceptable work behavior, and appropriate appearance. READY meets on Mondays.

Health Education and Active Lifestyles (HEALs) Program is a fitness group designed for our young ladies and will include topics such as body image, body size and shape, weight loss and diet, self esteem, personal challenges and goals. HEALs meets on Thursdays.
