Positive Youth Development After-School Programs

Male Empowerment Program

Adolescent Male Empowerment Network (AMEN) is a brotherhood where young men have a healthy and safe place to express themselves concerning relatable real-life issues such as conflict resolution, how to handle negative peer pressure, defining positive role models and how to set and pursue personal goals. AMEN promotes the social development of young men in order to enhance their transition from adolescence to becoming a productive and responsible citizen. AMEN will meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 12 weeks. Food is served after each group session.

Female Empowerment Program

Adolescent Female Forum to Inspire, Respect and Motivate (AFFIRM) is a sisterhood that promotes expression of ideas and also aspires to build self-confidence, self-worth and a sense of accomplishment. In AFFIRM, young women will identify and embrace their powerful qualities. Topics that will be discussed are: self-image (how does society represent women; how do women view themselves), the value of education, what is the true meaning of respect and establishing realistic goals for the future. AFFIRM will meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 12 weeks. Food is served after each group session.

Latino Leadership Program

Identity works closely with male and female Latino youth to empower them to reach their full potential and successfully transition into adulthood by providing them with knowledge, life skills, support and positive role models. This is done through discussing various issues such as: leadership, community building, self-identity, communication, sexuality and relationships, substance abuse and goal setting. Identity also has a strong family focus which involves and supports Latino parents, guardians and other family members. Identity wants to create a safe environment where Latinos can express their ideas and emotions. There will be 30 interactive sessions that meet twice a week for two hours. Sessions are conducted in Spanish.

Multicultural Youth Leadership Program

MY Lead (Multicultural Youth Lead) works closely with male and female youth to equip them with life skills, support, and diverse role models. The group aims to involve people from all backgrounds to promote education and greater understanding of cultural diversity. The program will empower youth to successfully transition into adulthood by conducting interactive sessions that will focus on leadership, community building, self-identity, diversity, communication skills, relationships and action planning. The program will be 90 minute sessions, twice a week for 12 weeks.
