A Comedy Workshop at Northwood High School
The Comedy Academy, Inc. will continue it’s after school program at Northwood High School beginning in October 2011 thru March 2012. Students will have the opportunity to work with a professional writer/director in exploring comedy writing and performance. Original scripts will be developed, students will participate in comedy improvisation and sketch comedy script development. When available, additional theatre professionals will attend and offer their professional guidance to students in the workshop.
All students participating in the Comedy Workshop at Northwood High School will be eligible to participate in The Comedy Academy’s presentations at area theatres and in the Capital Fringe Festival in downtown Washington, DC (Fringe 2012 if we’re accepted) Meetings will take place at Northwood High School on Tuesday afternoons

The workshop will be led by Harry M. Bagdasian, President, The Comedy Academy, Inc. Mr. Bagdasian is a professional director and playwright who was a pioneer of the Washington, DC theatre movement. He co-founded New Playwrights’ Theatre , was one of the founders of The League of Washington Theatres, and he wrote, directed and produced the Inaugural Helen Hayes Awards at The National Theatre in Washington, DC. For 25 years he has been writing and directing special events for a wide array of clients including Arena Stage, The United States Army, The International Association of Fire Fighters, The Anti-Defamation League and AFSCME. He has co-authored 5 plays with Ernie Joselovitz that have been published by Samuel French and by Dramatic Publishing and performed in theaters throughout the U.S. Anthologies of his comedy sketches – written with Lisa Levin Itté and with others, as well as solo - have been published by Contemporary Drama Services and used in classrooms and theatres around the world. Can You Whine Like a 5th Grader? 13 TV Parody Sketches came out in 2010. His students have been published in two anthologies of comedy sketches, Hell’s Library - 16 TV Parody Sketches created by Students for Students featuring sketches by Liam Brennan, Sara Mozersky, Josh Rosen, Rachel & Leah Solomon, John Kilmer, Jennie Bagdasian and Peter Walderhaug, and America’s Next Top (boy) Model and other TV Parody Comedy Sketches featuring sketches by Sara Mozersky, Leah Solomon and Rachel Solomon.
