Northwood offers the following academic services in order to help students who need additional assistance with their work.
Gladiator Lunch - Gladiator Lunch assists students who are ineligible by allowing them to meet with their teachers during the school day to discuss missing assignments and make-up work. Gladiator lunch is assigned as needed - students will be informed by teachers if they need to attend Gladiator Lunch. The subject days for Gladiator Lunch are:
- Monday – English
- Tuesday – Math
- Wednesday – Social Studies
- Thursday – Science
High School Plus - High School Plus is a program developed by the county so that students will not have to attend summer or night school, but will be able to remain at their own school to make up classes that are required for graduation. Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30 - 4:10 PM for an entire semester. Students should consult with their counselors to see if they are eligible for this program.
Writing Center - The English Department sponsors a writing center for students who need help with their essays or writing skills. The writing center is located in the second floor conference room and is staffed by students and staff members. Hours TBD for the 2009-2010 school year.
Literacy Club - The Literacy Club, which is sponsored by the Commonweal Foundation, works with children to increase students' reading proficiency. Teachers identify students to participate in the club. The club will start the week of November 2 and meet for 1 hour after school/3 days per week. Contact Ms. Lee for more information.

National Honor Society provides tutoring at the Writing Center and for ESOL students. Contact Ms. Vanderhorst for more information.
Home and Hospital Teaching - The Home and Hospital Teaching program provides instructional services to students, at home or in hospitals, who are unable to attend a regular school program due to a physical or emotional condition. A student receives a minimum of six hours of instruction per week. Instruction takes place either in the home, library, or other public facility. A responsible adult, 21 years of age or older, is required to be present during instruction time in the home. Visit the Home and Hospital Teaching page.
