In each specialty area students will be introduced to the history, rules, skills, and several different tactics that could be implemented in game play or activity for each specialty area.
Dance
The dance department offers courses that are designed to be an overview of the many aspects in the field of dance. Those topics to be introduced, though not limited to, are professional career options in dance, health and the care of a dancer’s body, history of dance in time and various cultures, explorations of choreography, and various dance techniques (to include modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet, African, and social dance forms).
In this course, students will:
• Demonstrate basic dance movement elements and technical skills
• Acquire the understanding of choreographic principles and processes
• Acquire and develop the knowledge of dance in the various cultures and historical periods
• Infer connections between dance and a healthy lifestyle
• Creatively express ideas, emotions, and concepts in dance
• Apply and demonstrate critical thinking skills in dance both as a performer and as an observer
Dance classes participate in a performance each semester.
Location: The Dance Studio is located next to the gym.
Family Life & Human Sexuality
This course is intended to help students gain greater understanding of family life as well as human sexuality. Students enrolled in this course will obtain accurate information needed foe each individual to make intelligent and responsible decisions. Major topics include self-concept, interpersonal relationships, human reproduction, pregnancy prevention, pregnancy and childbirth, sexually transmitted diseases, child maltreatment, aging the family in a cross-cultural setting, and the economics of life. Due to the nature of this course, parental permission is required for students under the age of 18.
