The Inside Scoop on MAP-R Testing
MAP-R stands for Measures of Academic Progress in Reading.
- It is an achievment test in reading that is taken on the computer
- It consists of 42 questipons each measuring a Goal or Performance area.
The categories on the test are:
- General Reading Processes
- Comprehension of Informational Text (varieties, features, organization)
- Comprehension of Informational Text (strategies, purposeful use of language, critical reading,)
- Comprehension of Literary Text (features, elements of narratives)
- Comprehnesion of Literary Text (strategies, important ideas, purposeful use of language)
What is the purpose of MAP-R?
- Parents, counselors, teachers, and students can monitor student achievment over time.
- Teachers can use it as ONE data souce to help identify instructional needs and grouping.
- Counselors can help students with course placement decisions.
- School personnel can monitor progress toward state reading proficiency standards.
How is MAP-R scored?
- Scores are noted as RIT scores that represent the overall scale score on the test.
- RIT scores range from 150-300 (K to adult).
- A lexile scores is also given that represents the instructional reading level.
- Lexile levels starts at 200 (K-first grade) up to 1500 (post high school).
- Lexiles can be used as ONE way to select reading material for students or when selecting classroom materials.
