Scholarships are monetary gifts that can be used to pay for college. Students do not have to repay scholarship money. Remember that no legitimate competitive scholarship will ever require information like a credit card number, a bank account number, or any kind of up front fee. No legitimate scholarship website can guarantee that a student will receive a scholarship.

Scholarship/Contest: Maryland State Senatorial Scholarship

Additional Information:

The Maryland State Senatorial Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of Maryland. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university, as a full-time or part-time student or attend certain private career schools to qualify for this award. All majors are eligible. You may use the scholarship at an out-of-state school if your major is not available at a Maryland school and if your senator approves. Entering freshmen must have taken the SAT 1 or the ACT unless you graduated from high school five or more years ago. Current undergraduate and graduate students must have earned at least 24 college credit hours.

Each year, the Washington Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) awards several gifts to graduating high school seniors recognized as outstanding students as follows:

 Several one-time awards of $1,000
 The three top award winners will also receive an additional $1,000 per year for up to an additional three years, if they maintain eligibility, and a “signing incentive” if, following undergraduate graduation, the student is employed by DoD or USCG

One of the goals of the Northwood PTSA is to encourage students to become lifelong learners. The PTSA decided this year to award $500 scholarships to four students in Northwood’s 2012 graduating class. Scholarship/Contest: National Maritime Intelligence Center BLACKS IN GOVERNMENT Scholarship Program

The Blacks In Government National Maritime Intelligence Center Chapter (NMIC-BIG) Scholarship Program is accepting applications from high school students who will be graduating this spring. A complete application package must be submitted to the scholarship committee no later than March 1, 2012. The package must consist of a scholarship application form, a written essay, an official high school transcript, a completed certification of academic standing form, and recommendations.

ELIGIBITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must be graduating from an accredited secondary educational institution.
Applicant must have applied for admission into at least one accredited institution of higher learning for the Fall 2012 school term.
Applicant must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Applicant must provide two recommendations: one from an official of their current school and one from either an employer, community organization, and or/church.
The applicant must reside within a 200-mile radius of Washington, D.C.
Selected student must be enrolled and in attendance for each semester prior to funds being disbursed.

Scholarship/Contest: NAACP Scholarship

The Montgomery County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will award scholarships to students residing in Montgomery County.  The scholarships will be presented at the Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a graduating high school senior.
  • Must have a grade point average or a weighted grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Must participate in extracurricular activities.
  • Must participate in faith-based, religious-based, or volunteer activities.  If this is not possible because of paid employment, please explain.

Scholarship/Contest: Air Force Officers’ Wives’ Club High School Senior Scholarship

High School Senior Scholarship Eligibility:

  1.  Applicant must be a candidate for graduation from high school in spring 2012.
  2.  Applicant must be a United States Air Force military dependent (active duty, reserve, guard, retired, deceased, officer, or enlisted).
  3. Acceptance of a military academy appointment, any full scholarship*, recipient of another OWC/NCOWC scholarship, before or after selection as a recipient of an AFOWC scholarship, will immediately terminate consideration for entitlement to an AFOWC scholarship.  In such event, that scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. 
  4. Children, wards or spouses of an AFOWC selection committee member or an AFOWC scholarship committee member, are not eligible for a scholarship in the year that person serves. 
  5. Previous AFOWC scholarship recipients are not eligible. 

*The AFOWC policy defines a full scholarship as having a student’s tuition, room and board paid.  No funds from the AFOWC scholarship will be received in cash by the recipient.

Scholarship/Contest: Society of Women Engineers

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must have applications as an undergraduate engineering student in an ABET/CSAB accredited engineering program.
  • High School seniors must choose their university prior to scholarship award, but only evidence of college applications are required to apply for the scholarships
  • Must not be receiving full funding from a university, employer or other outside source.
  • Must demonstrate high academic performance and show an enthusiastic interest in their professional development in the field of engineering by participating in technical organizations, holding leadership positions, conducting research projects or pursuing engineering or non-engineering related work experience.
  • Overall grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent (UNWEIGHTED).

Scholarship/Contest: Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund

Additional Information:

The Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund was created by an anonymous donor in memory of the women of the Hintz family (especially the donor’s sister, Sherry). The Fund provides college scholarship awards to students who have lost a parent/guardian to breast or ovarian cancer.  The Fund is administered through the Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) in partnership with the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Awardees of the Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund may receive up to $20,000 per year for as many as four years of undergraduate education.

Scholarship/Contest: Young Naturalist Awards 2012

Scholarship/Contest: MCPS Educational Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: March 15, 2012

Additional Information:

The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Educational Foundation, Inc. has established a scholarship fund for MCPS graduating seniors planning to attend Montgomery College. Students should have demonstrated academic promise, the self-discipline to succeed, and significant financial need. While students planning to attend Montgomery College will be given priority consideration, students might be considered for an award to attend a four-year Maryland institution if funding is available.

 Funding sources for MCPS Educational Foundation Scholarships include philanthropic foundations, government agencies, corporations, private citizens, and escheated funds. The Educational Foundation also partners with some Montgomery County legislators to identify students living within their legislative districts who are planning to attend Montgomery College. If funding is available, scholarships may be renewed until completion of an Associate Degree or for up to three years.

 All awards will be deposited directly into the student’s Montgomery College account. Educational Foundation scholarships cannot be transferred to another institution. Any changes to Legislative-funded Scholarships would be at the discretion of the sponsoring legislator.

 Selection Criteria:

  Graduating high school senior residing in Montgomery County, Maryland

  Grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 preferred

  Demonstrated financial need

  Demonstrated self-discipline and motivation

Scholarship/Contest: PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter Scholarship

In order to better prepare graduating high school seniors for opportunities and success with a future career, the PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter has established a college scholarship program. The Done Vida Scholarship was created to help educate Latino students in the DC metro area, about the importance and benefits of organ, eye and tissue donation. WRTC is asking students to submit a 2 -3 minute video, exploring and debunking one or more myths that surround organ, eye and tissue donation. The criteria for judging the videos are: 90% is determined by video quality, creativity and originality, effective communication of myth(s) and fact(s), persuasiveness to take action and register, adherence to the competition topic, and use of and citation of correct information.  10% is determined by the number of people who like and or comment on your video via Done Vida Scholarship Facebook page.

Scholarship/Contest: My Sister’s Keeper Scholarship

My Sister’s Keeper Scholarship Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a graduating senior during the 2011-2012 school year.
  2. Applicant must submit a completed application.
  3. Applicant must have a 3.0 or greater grade-point average from the time of application through the completion of the 12th grade.
  4. Applicant must submit proof of community service activities in the form of a letter on official organization letterhead.
  5. Applicant must submit two letters of recommendations from community representatives including, but not limited to, a supervisor, religious leader, teacher or counselor.

Scholarship/Contest: Montgomery County Federal Teachers Credit Union Bill Teel Scholarship

1. The applicant must be an MCT member who is in good standing. This means the student must

Scholarship/Contest: Rudolph Snowden Memorial Scholarship

The two main objectives of the scholarships are to increase the number of African American males attending colleges and universities, and to preserve Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Generally, scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, which may be applied to tuition or other expenses required by the school.  Each scholarship award is limited to a one-year term; however, a limited number of scholarships may be renewed following re-application by the student.  Satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, and the fulfillment of the scholarship fund’s requirements must be maintained for all renewals.  Awards are subject to available funding, with approved students being notified by July 1, 2012.

In accordance with the scholarship fund’s main objectives, each applicant must:

  • Be a Montgomery County Public Schools high school graduate;
  • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent;
  • Have been accepted to an accredited college or university;
  • Provide school (e.g., teacher, counselor, principal) and community references;
  • Provide evidence of your leadership skills within the school and the community; and
  • Demonstrate good written communication skills by providing a written narrative of your personal and professional aspirations

Applicants must also complete the Scholarship Application and Basic Data form and return it to the address indicated on the application form by no later than MAY 1, 2012.

The Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association (ITASA) is the largest collegiate Taiwanese association in the U.S. and hosts conferences and programs that promotes Taiwanese American Culture. The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Amount of Award:   $500.00

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.

To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on our site at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm

Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.
