Career Center News
The Northwood HS College/Career Center is designed to help students explore areas of interest as they prepare for their future endeavors. The Career Center offers information about careers and colleges including: college majors, essays, and applications; financial aid; scholarships; resume writing; SAT , PSAT, ACT and much more. It houses a variety of books, catalogues, computer programs with specialized guidance material, test registration forms, and other information resources. Guest speakers and college representatives will be frequent visitors to the College/Career Center. Information about college visits and scholarships will be advertised on the morning announcements, the “Current Events” bulletin board in the Career Center; this newsletter and the College Career link on the Northwood website. As part of the Counseling Department, the College/Career Center is located across the hall from the Counseling Suite and is open between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. during the school year. Students are required to have a pass signed by their teacher, a counselor, or the College/Career Information Coordinator in order to enter the College/Career Center during the regular school day. Students may use the College/Career Center before school, during lunch, and after school with out a pass. Ms. Hammond Davis, College Career Information Coordinator, serves as a guide and facilitator, and provides individual and group instruction. The College/Career Center provides the following services:
- Career and college presentations
- Assistance in college selection, application, and career planning
- Scholarship, grant, and financial aid information
- Evening programs for parents
- Monthly newsletter
- College and scholarship information links

The following colleges/universities will visit Northwood High School to speak with interested Juniors and Seniors. Juniors and Seniors must request a pass from Ms. Hammond-Davis two days prior to the college visit.

Official College Board SAT Online Prep Course
MCPS is offering the CollegeBoard Official SAT Online Preparation Course to all county high school students free of charge. It is an excellent tool for students who want to prepare for the PSAT and SAT. Students will need to receive an access code and/or password from their high school College and Career Centers or Guidance Offices. FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS TO REGISTER.
