Midpoint of 3rd Marking
Last Friday, March 3, was the midpoint of the third marking
period, so please make sure you are monitoring your student’s grades using

Booster Club Mulch Sale: Saturday, April
The Northwest High School Booster Club 18th
Annual Mulch Sale is Saturday, April 1. Large bags containing shredded
hardwood mulch are only $5.25. Free delivery is provided for pre-orders
of 15 bags or more, and the Northwest football team can spread the mulch for
you on Sunday, April 2, for an additional $3.00 per bag. For complete

Spring Sports Meet the Teams: Thursday,
Our spring sports “Meet the Teams” event will be this
Thursday, March 9, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. All parents of students
participating in spring sports are encouraged to attend!
Varsity Letter Jackets: Ordering on
Thursday, March 9
Prior to “Meet the Teams” this Thursday, March 9, from 6:00
pm to 7:00 pm, a Balfour representative will be in the auditorium lobby to help
students order Varsity letter jackets. More information about the jackets can

Advanced Placement Exam Registration:
Deadline is Thursday, March 16
All students taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes should
register for the corresponding AP exams online by next Thursday, March
16. For details, please click on “AP Registration Documents” in the
“News” section of the Northwest website. If students or parents have any
questions about the registration process, they should contact Mr. Freeman or
Ms. Kravitz in the counseling office at 301-601-4642. They can also be

Please Do Not Drop Off Students on
Richter Farm Road!
As a reminder to parents, it is illegal and dangerous to
stop a vehicle and drop off students on Richter Farm Road. The Montgomery
County Police Department began enforcement of this last week and plans to
continue in the coming days and week. All student drop-off should occur
in the lower parking lot. If you arrive by 7:30 am, the entire drop-off
process will only take a few minutes at the most, and your student will have
plenty of time to arrive in 1st period on time!
Booster Club Scholarship: Application
Deadline is Tuesday, April 4
Applications are now being accepted for the Northwest
Booster Club Scholarships. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and
one female Northwest senior planning to attend a two-year or four-year college
or university. For eligibility criteria and application requirements,

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 4.
MCPS Science Night: Monday, March 20
MCPS, in collaboration with the Montgomery County Council
of PTAs (MCCPTA), will be hosting a Science Night from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on
Monday, March 20, in the cafeteria at Richard Montgomery High School in
Rockville. At the event, parents and students will join MCPS science
educators to learn about the Next Generation Science Standards; new testing
requirements; the timeline for implementation in elementary, middle, and high
schools; new high school course pathways; and college and career readiness.
Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on science
activities and hear from students in the district’s pathways program. For

Choose Respect Conference: Sunday, April
All students and parents are encouraged
to mark their calendars for the 2017 Choose Respect Conference, the 8th
annual conference on healthy teen dating. This free, fun-filled event will take
place on Sunday, April 2, at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville.
There will be a resource fair from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, and then the
conference will occur from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Free pizza will be
provided to all participants at the end of the event. For more information, and

Revised Calendar for 2017-2018 School
The Montgomery County Board of Education adopted
an updated calendar for the 2017–2018 school year last week. The first
day of school for students will be September 5, 2017, and the last day of
school will now be June 12, 2018. The Board also adopted a contingency
plan that identifies dates that could be used as instructional days, if
necessary, to make up school due to emergency and weather-related
closings. Two of these days are the first two days of the scheduled
spring break next year, March 26 and 27, 2018. For more information,
