Another State Championship for Boys’ Indoor Track Team!

Our boys’ indoor track team won the 4A state championship last Tuesday for the fifth, yes fifth, year in a row!!  Congratulations to Head Coach Robert Youngblood, Assistant Coaches Fran Parry and Nate Parry, and all of the members of the team on this huge accomplishment!! 


Early Release Day: Friday, March 2

This Friday, March 2, is the midpoint of the 3rd marking period and an early release day.  The last class on Friday will end at 11:38 am, and then there will be a brief student lunch period from 11:38 am until 12:00 noon.  In addition, please make sure you are monitoring your student’s grades using myMCPS Portal.  If you need assistance with setting up your myMCPS Portal account, or have myMCPS Portal questions, please contact Ms. Autumn Myers, media specialist, at


Delayed Opening for Grades 9, 10 and 12: Wednesday, March 7

All 11th grade students are scheduled to take the SAT without essay, free of charge, on Wednesday, March 7.

All students not taking the SAT will have a delayed start to classes on Wednesday, March 7, and do not have to come to school until classes begin.  Lunch that day will occur at 12:00 noon, and classes will begin at 12:30 pm.  All classes, periods 1-8, will meet on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 7, though the periods will be shortened. 

Buses will run on their normal schedules next Wednesday, March 7.  If students come at 7:45 am and are not scheduled to take the SAT, there will be a supervised study hall in the cafeteria for the morning.


Spring Sports Registration: Deadline is Tuesday, February 27

Spring sports tryouts start this Thursday, March 1, and registration will be online as it was during the winter season.  For complete details, please visit   Parents must register their children by this Tuesday, February 27, in order for them to be able to try out on Thursday, March 1.  For parents who do not have access to a computer, please come to room 104 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm this Tuesday, February 27, for assistance in completing the registration process.  If you have any questions about registering for spring sports tryouts, please contact Ms. Anne Rossiter, athletic director, at  Please note that some teams may require additional sport-specific forms, and these forms will not be available online.  Students should check with the respective coach to see if there are any additional required forms.


MCPS College Fair: Permission Slips Due Monday, March 5

On Tuesday, April 10, Northwest juniors are invited to participate in the Montgomery County Public Schools College Fair held at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center in Gaithersburg.  MCPS hosts this fair in partnership with the National Association for College Admission Counseling.  Buses will depart from Northwest at 9:45 am and are expected to return by the end of lunch.  The cost for this field trip is $4.00.  Juniors can pick up registration information and permission forms in the College & Career Information Center or from their counselor.  Permission forms with $4.00 and the college fair admit pass must be returned to the College & Career Information Center no later than next Monday, March 5, at lunch. The college fair admit pass and permission forms will be accepted as long as bus seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  The fair will also be open for parents and students on the evening of Tuesday, April 10, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. 


Booster Club Mulch Sale: Saturday, April 14

The Northwest High School Booster Club 19th Annual Mulch Sale is Saturday, April 14.  Large bags containing either brown or black shredded hardwood mulch are only $5.25.  Free delivery is provided for pre-orders of 15 bags or more, and the Northwest football team can spread the mulch for you on Sunday, April 15, for an additional $3.00 per bag.  For complete ordering information, please visit  Thank you in advance for your support, as 100 percent of the proceeds from the mulch sale benefit students at Northwest!


AP Exam Registration

Supporting After Prom 2018

Northwest will once again host an all-night after prom party to keep our kids safe and off the roads on prom night! This incredible event includes food, games, DJ, entertainment, activities, tons of prizes and giveaways, and more! In order to make this event possible, we need to raise a significant amount of money. We encourage all families to donate $20.18 for 2018 (or any other amount) to support this amazing event!
