Paper Sculpture

6th Grade Artists studied the possibilities of paper and how the material can be used to create 3D sculptures.  Students experimented with paper manipulation including folding, cutting, and gluing.  After defining symmetrical and asymmetrical balance, artists created a sculpture in the round.  Visual and physical balance were used as the design's foundation.

Developmental Workbook Collages

A Developmental Workbook is a sketchbook used by artists to plan, create, and reflect on artwork over the semester. It was important for each cover to reflect the artists' individuality. Students were to focus on a theme and express themselves through collage. Magazine clippings were used to compose an original scene. When assembling their collages, students aimed for a variety of colors, values, and visual textures while making sure to achieve unity in the end. Students explained their collage through an artist's statement.

Pinwheels for Peace

In honor of September 21st' International Day of Peace, Ms. Morris' art students took part in an international art and literacy project, Pinwheels for Peace, by “planting” pinwheels with messages of peace in front of the school. The pinwheels express students’ thoughts and feelings about war and peace, tolerance, and living in harmony with others.  For more information, go to http://www.pinwheelsforpeace.com.
