The Carver Society
The Carver Society is open to all students. Ms. Denise Cherry is The Carver Society's sponsor and meetings are held in Room 226 after school.
The Carver Society is an African American History Club. We focus on humanitarian needs of the local community by collecting and distributing clothes and food; show appreciation for our teachers and staff and for one another, learn about African Americans in history both past and present, and enjoy fellowship with one another. The culminating event (Feb 12) is a traditional Soul Food Dinner where parents, teachers and fellow students are invited to attend.

Feb 23rd. This week marks the end of the official Black History celebration in our school. Tomorrow, we will hold our last meeting of the year and celebrate the month with food, facts, and music. However, here is how you can celebrate your history even more:
Make your own positive contributions to our human society. You can do this by getting good grades, studying, showing good manners, doing the “right thing”, volunteering in your community and school, and making goals that will benefit not only you, but mankind.
Thank you to the morning News team who dedicated part of their program to acknowledging Black History this entire month of Feburary. Thank you to people of all colors and from all nations in our world who gave their spirit, their time, and sometimes their lives, to help promote equality and fairness to all.

Today is Martin Luther King’s birthday although we celebrate it on Monday. Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an African American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the United States civil rights movement. His main legacy was to secure peaceful progress on civil rights in the United States.
I am wearing my flashing peace symbol on my keychain today in his honor.
*********On behalf of the Carver Society, we invite you in joining many people across the nation that will be volunteering their services to others on MLKing Day on Monday. Find something that will help someone else-someone you don’t know personally. That is the greatest tribute we can have for this tremendous leader.
Dr. King said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'”. So Neelsville, what are you doing for others? Maybe take Monday to collect the stuff animals that you have at home so we can help Mrs. Schwille and Dr. Morgan’s school-wide drive to send stuffed animal toys to needy children in Iraq. Bring them to school on Wednesday.
The agenda for the first meeting looked like this:
