Meet the members of the Social Studies Department:
6th grade – Ms. Nachlas, Mr. Thornett, Ms Hill
7th grade – Ms. Hill, Mrs. Schwille
8th grade – Ms. Brooks-Jones, Mr. Yeisley
After getting her degree in Jewish Studies from the Univ. of MD and leading educational trips to Israel, Ms Nachlas decided to go back to school to get her MAT in Secondary Ed. Social Studies. This is her 6th year teaching here at Neelsville, having taught both 6th & 7th grade. She has also sponsored the Good Knights for the past 5 years. She is an Ancient History & archaeology buff and loves to travel and learn about different cultures.
Mr. Thornett graduated from James Madison University with a degree in History and Education. This is his 8th year at Neelsville Middle School. He teaches 6th grade social studies and is also one of the team leaders for the 6th grade. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and watching the Redskins.
This is Ms. Hill’s third year teaching at Neelsville Middle School. She has taught all three grades which include both US History and World Studies. Before coming to Neelsville she graduated from WVU with her bachelors and masters in secondary social studies education. She went to high school in Northern Virginia and has lived in six states.
Mrs. Schwille is the Social Studies Department head and one of the 7th grade team leaders. She has been at Neelsville since it opened, for the past 14 years. She has taught in four states and overseas. Both of her children are Watkins Mill High School graduates. She enjoys reading, working in the kitchen and traveling to visit family.
Ms. Brooks-Jones is one of the dynamic duo of the 8th grade history department. She is a Watkins Mill native. She attended Watkins Mill ES, Montgomery Village MS, and Watkins Mill High School. She truly a hometown girl. She is a proud Terrapin (having graduated with a bachelor’s from University of Maryland, College Park). In addition, she received her master’s degree in education from Walden University. This is Ms.Brook-Jones’ ninth year at Neelsville Middle School. U.S. History is her favorite subject and she loves teaching it every day. She continues to look forward to teaching your child and sharing her enthusiasm for the past (as well as the present).
Mr. Yeisley is the other half of the eighth grade dynamic duo history department. He went to Towson University for his education degree and is currently working on his masters’ degree at American University. He has been teaching at Neelsville for nine years, all eight of which have been eighth grade U.S. History! He also coach the boys’ basketball and softball teams. Mr. Yeisley is excited to be here at Neelsville and enjoys teaching your children!
