Staff

Goal
The goal of the MVMS is to support the instructional program at MVMS and to provide students access to print, non-print and electronic resources to meet their academic and personal needs and interests.
We promote intellectual freedom - providing the opportunity to ask questions and have thought provoking discussion while respecting the opinions of others. We fully support the ALA Bill of Rights.
It is the responsibility of the media specialist to provide instruction in the Library Media Learner Outcomes;to plan with teachers to provide well-integrated library media experiences; to manage the collection to reflect students' abilities, needs and interests and to support the use of technology to enhance learning.

Hours
- 7:40 (with a LMC AM pass) - 3:30
- During lunches students may get a pass in the cafeteria, or come prior to lunch to arrange for a school work pass.
Circulation
- Students may check out up to 4 materials at any one time (including back issues of magazines), however, we reserve the right to limit check out for students with overdue or lost materials.

Book Awards
- The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award honors outstanding books, chosen annually by Maryland students.
- The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
- The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
- Coretta Scott King Book Award titles promote understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples and their contribution to the realization of the American dream.
- The Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
- The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
- Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award is awarded annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational book published in English during the preceding year.
