ESOL Program

Students whose native language is not English and who do not have enough proficiency in English to take regular English and/or reading courses are placed in the ESOL program. ESOL students move through three levels of instruction, from Level 1 for students with the least proficiency to Level 3 for the most advanced ESOL students. This program teaches students English as a second language and helps them adjust to learning in a new environment. All ESOL students learn communication skills and literacy so that they can become independent and productive learners.

METS Program

The METS (Multidisciplinary Educational Training and Support Program) at the Montgomery Village Middle School is designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of limited English proficient students, in grades 6-8, who have little or no previous schooling. The approach used in this program combines English language development, learning strategies, and sheltered instruction in the basic skills of reading, math, and social studies.
