MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

The Monocacy Chorus will be performing for Grandparents’ Day
Wednesday December 23rd at 10:00
AM

Come join us for our concert and winter sing-a-long.
Be sure to bring your singing voices!

5th Grade: The fifth grade students will be identifying various instruments by sight and by sound.  They will also be using proper singing techniques to sing partner songs and songs with descants.  A partner song is two songs sung at the same time to create harmony.  A descant is a slightly higher melody line that is sung with a given melody to create harmony.

4th Grade: Fourth grade students will be demonstrating various dynamics (how loud or how soft a piece is) and tempi (how fast or how slow a piece is) in songs.  Students will also be reading and performing a simple melody on the treble clef using solfeggio (do, re, mi,….).

3rd Grade:
Third grade will be learning to sing in two-part rounds.  They will also be learning about meter and identifying meter signatures in music.  Students will also work toward earning their yellow belt for recorder karate.

2nd Grade: Students will be learning how to perform sequences of movement in singing games.  Students will also be learning how to accompany a song by playing a bordun pattern on xylophones.

1st Grade: First grade will be working on accompanying a song by playing the steady beat on an instrument.  They will also be listening for contrasts in music such as soft/loud and fast/slow.

Kindergarten: This marking period, students will continue to work on maintaining a steady beat and learning about contrasts in music.  Students will also explore the different ways we use our voice (whispering, singing and talking).

Chorus: Chorus is working on memorizing all of our music for our upcoming winter concert.  The concert is on Wednesday, December 23rd at 10:00 a.m.  Students should wear white/light shirts and black or dark pants/skirts for this concert.

Instrumental Music

Beginning Band and Strings: We have begun to learn the fundamentals of producing good sound on our instruments. We are also learning the parts of each instrument and working on learning the first five notes to be played in the method book, Essential Elements 2000. Students are being reminded to practice each day at home to get better and develop the muscle skills necessary to play well. Students are learning to use the play-a-long DVD to help with practice.

Advanced Band: Our goal is to finish the first book this year! We are learning new notes on pages 16 and 17 and preparing songs for the Winter Concert in January. One song will be Bartok Folk Song and Dance, a full band arrangement. The students are also playing Hard Rock Blues from page 13 in the method book and hoping to become YouTube rock stars. We’ll see!
