October 7, 2008

 

Attendees:  Cynthia Duranko, Dawn Albert, Ryan Hemingway, Twyla Insalaco, Dawn Espinoza, Bonnie Byrd, Eva Mendez, Wendy Butler, Beth Poss, Lori Main, Rick Boe, Rachel Brewster, Vince D., Heidi Rosvold-Brenoltz, Carolyn Rast, Bonnie Brown, Tiffany Ayers, Al Espinzoa, and one other mom.

Reviewed: Roberts Rules, Agenda, distribution of staff appreciation checks

 

Principal’s Message (Ms. Duranko)

MCPS website showcases Monocacy on the front page for our Recycle program!

 

Open House will be Monday 10/13- please come and visit

 

10/31- All-school parade will be after lunch, then students to classrooms for activities;  please bring costumes to change into, don’t wear them to school and remember-no weapons or inappropriate costumes.

 

Parent conferences 11/11 and 11/12 - please sign up if you haven’t and come with questions for the teachers.

 

School Improvement Plan-goal to make the information from SIP more accessible to parents. Main goals are Math, Reading, and Respect!

 

Guest Speaker (Rachel Brewster-Reading Specialist)

 Mrs. Brewster reviewed our reading program goals. Discussed goal attainment, differentiated instruction, grammer/spelling, and related topics.

 

Committee Reports (Dawn Albert)

Spiritwear-Ms. Duranko spoke about encouraging Friday as Spirit Day and having the kids and staff wear their T’s; t-shirts and bags will be for sale at FFN

 

Fall Family Fun Night - More Volunteers are needed, please contact Lori Main Bolton at loribolton@yahoo.com  Start time will be 7pm.

 

Yearbook - A call out for candid pictures.  Please send in PDF format to Dorrie Ballman at  ballmann.family@verizon.net

 

Task Force needed to address Enrollment for Monocacy-Ms. Duranko assured parents that the future of the school is intact. Clarksburg families interested in working with us to look into options for expanding Monocacy enrollment.  Please contact PTA at bobcatspta@yahoo.com in interested in helping.

 

Fund raising for new Audio equipment. Call out for anyone who could help with obtaining estimates. One estimate quoted at $16,000. Ouch! See Beth Poss for specifics of what is needed.

 

Kathryn Beich –(Twyla)– packets are out, reminders coming, orders due 10/16

Book Fair – (Katrin) - November 7, 10-12; seeking volunteers, please contact Katrin at Katrin.Pach@verizon.net

 

Cultural Arts – (Beth/Dawn E.) - storyteller on 11/11 for /book fair/mtg; Ford’s Theatre presentation 10/15; considering events for spring semester

 

Staff Appreciation - THIS POSITION IS OPEN – please contact the PTA at bobcatspta@yahoo.com to help organize a group of parents to recognize the staff throughout the year.

 

Dining for Dollars – discussion was had as to whether to do this and if so what restaurant.  Decided to look into several options including Cugini’s and California Tortilla.

 

Financial Review (Ryan Hemingway)

Ms. Duranko suggested reducing the Principal’s Student Aid Fund from $500 to $250.  Motion was made to accept the financials as presented but make two separate distributions.  The motion was seconded.

 

Announcements:

Computer Club sponsored by Beth Poss is starting November 10, 2008. Club members will meet Mondays 8am for grades 3, 4, and 5. Goal is to enhance exposure to multi-medias.

 

Odyssey of the Mind sponsored by Wendy Roldan is starting October 14th.  Teams are open for students K-5 and will select their own meeting times.  Please contact her if you wish to help.

 

Next PTA Meeting: November 11, 2008 is the Ice Cream social-please join us.  The book fair will be open, plus there will be a story-teller to entertain the entire family.  Please mark your calendar now!
