Personal Choices for Success

We are a center committed to providing a safe and caring place for students to become successful, respectful, and responsible young adults.

The McKenney Hills Alternative Center , an alternative high school , is a workplace where staff members incorporate an array of teaching strategies to meet the many diverse learning styles of their students. Students are prepared for graduation from high school by meeting the academic requirements of Maryland State Department of Education by following the state learning outcomes and objectives for each course. Cooperative learning, strengthening interpersonal skill development, promoting positive peer interaction, improving self esteem, encouraging student ownership for their academic achievement, utilizing Character Education strategies and promoting healthy lifestyles are stressed so students can be successful in returning to their comprehensive high school prepared with skills for their future. The McKenney Hills staff members are dedicated to establishing a classroom climate of respect and responsibility where students can attain the acceptance and confidence they need through a sense of belonging, caring, sharing and cooperation.
