Magruder Academies Streaming Video - Finance


A large number of the top 100 jobs today are directly related to Finance. In the Fall, 2005, Magruder High School launched the National Academy of Finance for those students interested in any career related to the finance industry.

Program Goals:
1. Prepare students for careers in the financial services industry through coursework and on the job experience.

2. Empower young people to develop and gain valuable transferable skills by exposing them to the finance industry through mentoring, internships, job shadowing, goal setting, and team work.

3. Teach youth to become responsible citizens demonstrating a strong moral sense of ethics and a willingness to serve the community.Students who complete this program will graduate with empowered life long skills in the business area of their choice. They will be prepared to enter the business world, and they will also have the academic preparation for post secondary education. They will excel as critical thinkers and be aware of their interdependence in our global, culturally diverse society. Through a commitment to excellence, the students will vigorously take the challenge in the celebration of success.Admission Requirements:

  1. Submit Written Application

  2. Submit 2 teacher recommendations

  3. Have excellent attendance record

  4. Sign a contract committing to the completion of the program

Members will have the chance to engage in a summer paid-internship at one of Magruder's Academy of Finance business partners. The experience will serve as a major resume booster that will impress future employer's. Students will also earn the experience in the field of business were they can put their acquired accounting and finance skills to the test.

* Accounting One is a Pre/Co-requisite for all the other Academy of Finance classes. Students are required to have a paid summer internship, usually between their Jr. and Sr. year.

Students also are required to take and pass one college course. This can be done on their own time and expense, or they can take one (or both if they want) of the following courses during school:
AP Economics Macro**                              2315               ½ credit / 1 semester     12th grade
AP Economics Micro**                               2316               ½ credit / 1 semester     12th grade

**If the AP Economics option is selected, students are required to sit for the AP Exam.
