Magruder Academies Streaming Video - Arts & Humanities


Mission Statement: The Magruder High School Arts and Humanities Academy is a community of teachers and learners dedicated to the interdependence of all types of human knowledge and expression. Following and expanding upon the standard curriculum, we celebrate the ways in which human beings and their varied cultures have learned to enrich their experience and established connections with each other throughout history and across the globe; we value the contributions of the past as well as the unique talents that all students bring to our collective vision for the future.

Requirements of the Academy — Five (5) Credits as follows:

  • AP English Language and Composition(2 semesters)
  • AP Government, AP US History, AP World History, or AP European History (2 semesters)
  • One other AP course in Social Studies or English (2 semesters)
  • Foreign Language courses of Level IV honors or higher (2 semesters)
  • Advanced study in one or more of the following arts/media strands: vocal music, instrumental music, visual arts, journalism and media (2 semesters)

Students may express their intention to participate in the Academy upon their entrance to Magruder or at any time before the start of their junior year. In addition to the courses listed above, Academy students are expected to take part in Academy activities such as field trips, seminars, and arts evenings. Beginning in 2009-10, the Capstone Project/Senior Seminar will be expected as a culminating activity for all graduating Academy seniors.
