Magruder High School

Honors Support Program

Magruder High School provides an Honors and AP Program which requires capable and motivated students to pursue a rigorous program of higher level course work. Students with the support of their parents and counselor, are expected to assess the number of courses they should take in the honors program. Students should be able to keep up with the pace of the classes. If a student experiences difficulty, he/she is expected to seek help and support from teachers and counselor. This pamphlet is provided to offer students help in seeking support and tutoring in their honors and AP classes.

English Department

The English Department is committed to supporting all students in their success in the most rigorus courses possible.

All teachers offer office hours several times per week, which are posted by their rooms or on their syllabus. In most cases, if you cannot arrange an appointment with your teacher, you may meet with a teacher on the same grade-level team.

In addition, students may work in the writing labs with the assistance of the composition assistants during any lunch period (a pass from your English teacher is needed) or after school until 4:00 pm Monday - Thursday and until 3:00 on Fridays.

SAT Prep courses are offered during the school day and after school; study sessions are also offered the week before each administration of the exam. Contact Ms. Middendorf in C242 for further information.

Be proactive! One sign of an honors student is your willingness to do what it takes to succeed. We're here to help you do just that.
