Magruder Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Process and Criteria

Selection Process: All former Magruder student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, community athletic supporters, and administrators are eligible for selection into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.  A candidate is selected when 5 of the 7 selection committee members vote for induction. Selection criteria for each group is listed below. 

            Eligibility for student-athletes:
                        1. Superior accomplishments as a student-athlete at MHS(All-County, All- State, etc.). 
                        2.  Graduation from MHS five years prior to their nomination.
                        3.  Continuing excellence at the collegiate, national, amateur, or professional levels should also be considered.
                        4.  The student-athlete will have exemplified characteristics of integrity
and sportsmanship, as well as citizenship before and after graduation.

            Eligibility for coaches/athletic directors
1.  Coaches and athletic directors are eligible upon retirement or the end of their tenure at Magruder.
2.  Significant contributions made to the overall athletic program including longevity, overall record, and championships.

            Eligibility for Administrators
1.  Administrators are immediately eligible upon retirement or their leaving Magruder.
                        2.  Special nominations and recommendations may be made for                                                 administrators who have made special contributions to the athletic program.

            Eligibility for Community Members
1.  Significant contributions to the MHS Athletic Department.  This may involve general support or specific support for one or more sports.

2. Significant contributions to amateur or professional sports by a Magruder graduate/community member in a sport not offered by the Magruder athletic department.

Eligibility for teams
-All teams that have won division, county, regional and/or state titles are recognized in the main gym via banners.  However, the selection committee may occasionally choose to honor a specific team for their collective accomplishments.  Individuals may nominate any team for this honor as long as the team was a school sponsored varsity sport.  Criteria for selection includes:  the accomplishments of the team, championships won and impact on the larger community.

Selection Committe-The Hall of Fame selection committee currently consists of the following individuals: Mr. Scott Zanni (varsity volleyball coach and chair of committee), Mr. Karl Heimbach (Magruder Athletic Director), Ms. Cindy Graham (cheerleading coach), Mr. Max Sartoph (wrestling coach), Mr. Ken Oseneek (alumni), Mr. Andrew Sidorick (retired coach) and Ms. Kris Hughes (community member).

Nomination process:Nomination process: Candidates may be nominated at any time during the year.  A nomination form can be obtained from the athletic department office.  In order for a candidate to be nominated, the entire form must be completely filled out.  The process works as follows:

• The deadline every year for nomination is May 1.  Please send all applications to Scott Zanni at Magruder High School (5939 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood MD 20855).
• The selection committee meets every year in late May or early June.  All candidates are discussed and voted on. 
• If a candidate receives five of the seven votes, they will be inducted the following fall (usually in October).  The nominator and the inductee will each receive letters in June providing information about the induction ceremonies.
• A candidate that does not receive five votes will have their nomination kept active for the following years or rejected.
• All candidates for induction who are kept active will be automatically reviewed and voted on the following year.
• All candidates rejected will not be considered in following years.
• All nominators of candidates will receive letters in June informing them of the status of the individual they nominated.
