Safety

Bus Traffic and Crosswalk Rules

*Do NOT enter the bus drive after 8:30 am or after 2:35 p.m., at midday because of kindergarten runs, or when buses are present in the driveway.

*Please obey the no parking signs and only park where it is legal to do so. Stopping in the middle of the street to drop off your child, and making U-turns on Tilden Lane are both dangerous practices.
*Set a good example for your child(ren) by using the painted crosswalks when crossing the traffic lanes in front of the school and when crossing Tilden Lane.

*If you enter the staff parking lot to drop-off or pickup your child, expect to be delayed from exiting. We restrict this traffic in order to guarantee student safety.

Disabled Parking

Please be aware of the location of the disabled parking spaces in the staff parking lot, and be careful not to block access, particularly at dismissal times. We have requested additional reserved spaces to meet the needs of our staff, parents and students. In the meantime, we ask that you avoid parking directly in front of these designated parking spaces.

Inclement Weather Procedures

Winter weather emergencies, such as snow and ice, may cause disruptions to school operations and schedules. Changes may include the closure of school, a delayed opening or an early dismissal. Please be sure that your child(ren) and your child's teacher know what to do in case of a weather emergency. Provide written notice to your child's teacher of any change in plans.

You can get up-to-date information on Montgomery County School closings at the MCPS home page. All emergency announcements are displayed in bold red letters at the top of the page.

You can sign up to receive email notification (available in six languages) whenever there is any change in county-wide school status at Quick Notes.

Changes in Routines

How do I request for my child to leave school early?

All requests for children to leave school early should be sent in writing to the child's teacher. Parents arriving at school to pick up their child should report to the office and sign the child out on the appropriate form. Your child will be called to meet you in the office. If it is not possible to make prior arrangements, parents should still report to the the office for assistance.

What if there is a change in after school plans?

At the end of each day, we put students on their correct buses and dismiss the walkers unless we have written notes which change their after school plans. If your child should ride a different bus or wait at school to be picked up, both the office and the child's teacher need to know. Some children have standing appointments on certain days. We need an initial note and then we only need a note if the plan changes. Any changes in transportation should be made the night before, not during the school day. Only in an emergency situation should parents request a change in the transportation arrangements for their child by calling the school. If you child should make after school plans with a friend, please be sure to speak directly with the other child's parents. We want to ensure that BOTH sets of parents are aware of the arrangements.
