Kindergarten
November has been a very busy month for ALL kindergarten students, teachers and parents. During the month we had literacy and math centers daily, continued our study of seasonal changes and animal studies, prepared and ate our Thanksgiving Feast, and had parent teacher conferences. As you can see, it WAS very busy! Now we would like to discuss the month of December. SPECIAL DATES: December 23- Last day of school until January 5th. School starts again on the 5th. Math
Reading/Writing The children are all engaged in reading groups and will be bringing reading books home just about weekly. When your child brings a book home from their group, please sit down and have him/her read it to you and other family members. Please return the book to school the next day. We have about 4-8 copies of each book and need them back for instruction. During the whole group portion of out literacy block, we will work on:
Word Study/Spelling A, at, am, and, can, here, I, go, is, like, look, on, see, said, the, to, we, you, in, this Social Studies In connection with our social studies unit on families, we would like to invite family member to visit our classrooms during the months of December and January and to tell how their family celebrates the holidays. In addition to talking to the students, you may want to show items connected with the holiday, or have students sample holiday food. Please let us know at the beginning of December if you could share your holiday with the class. We will assist you in working with the children in any way possible. Science Continue to study seasonal changes and will prepare for winter to arrive on December 21 and start our 2nd Science unit (All About Me) this month. We will also plant our Spring Bulbs!!! December Show and Tell
We will be going to the National Zoo on December 19th. Please return your permission slip as soon as possible. Other Important Information Cold Weather - Since the cold weather will soon be here to stay, we would like to stress the fact that the children need to be dressed appropriately (heavy coats, mittens, hats, and boots when muddy) for playing outside. Names on clothing helps us find lost items. Also if you think your child is sick, please keep him/her home from school. Once something starts in the classroom, it is hard to stop it from going through the children and ourselves-thank you! Writing - We are coming along nicely with our writing. The children are learning to start sentences with capital letters and end with a period. Most children are leaving space between words. Starfall Sesame Workshop All Mixed Up Alphabet Action If you have any questions concerning your child in kindergarten, please feel free to write a note or call. Our email addresses are listed below. We are looking forward to working with you and your child during the new school year. |
