Mission Statement
Our Mission in Art is to become aware of the elements of Art around us. We will strive for creativity through activities that challenge our imagination. We will help each other do our best work, stay safe throughout the class periods, work quietly and respectfully, and stay meaningfully engaged in all art endeavors.

art palette Art is an act of creation, when images and objects, sights and sounds, or drawings and carvings convey the beauty and splendor of the world, or realize the imagination of the artist, for the purpose of self-expression or the shared enjoyment of its creation.

Art Room News from Mrs. Stufft
Welcome back Luxmanor Families!  I have enjoyed the start of the school year and look forward to the weeks ahead.  All of the classes began the year with an observational drawing of sunflowers. After completing a pencil drawing we added color through the process of crayon resist.  We looked at the sunflower painting by Vincent van Gogh and learned some facts about his life and work.  We will be putting the work in an all school display with a message about what is right here at Luxmanor or Luxworld.  Look for the display in the hallway near the art room.

When we complete the sunflower project, we will begin our individual projects. I have listed some brief descriptions below.  Some of the inspiration for our first projects will come from the Summer Olympics in China.
  • SCB - We will be weaving painted paper.

  • Kindergarten - We will be learning about primary and secondary colors through a watercolor painting project.

  • First Grade - We will be creating a paper sculpture mask using Chinese Lion Dance mask for a theme.

  • Second Grade - We will begin a contour line drawing lesson from a seasonal still life.

  • Third Grade - We will begin a lesson on portraiture and become familiar with the portrait work from ancient Egypt.

  • Fourth Grade - We will begin a lesson on pen and ink drawing using Chinese dragons for a theme.

  • Fifth Grade - We will be creating a painted paper action figure collage. We will base our figure drawings on Olympic game symbols.
