Hundreds of 7th grade students from A. Mario Loiederman and Gaithersburg middle schools participated in exciting hands-on science activities during the 5th annual Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day on October 25.science fun at Johns Hopkins University.

Honoring the Best in Business, The Washington Business Hall of Fame Awards Dinner recognized the evenings laureates and raised funds to support Junior Achievement of Greater Washington's financial literacy programs.

Montgomery County students to study with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Music education will soon hit a new note in Montgomery County.

Next year, students at 23 schools will get a chance to study with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

The BSO is an internationally recognized and Grammy-Award winning ensemble. And starting next month, some members will be taking on another role---they'll be sharing their expertise with local students

November 27, 2012 MCPS Bulletin Renowned Composer Visits Loiederman Middle School

Internationally known composer and conductor Jim Papoulis, who has worked with talents such as Aretha Franklin, Snoop Dogg and Christina Aguilera, held a workshop for choral students. He is working with the students to create a commissioned piece, which will be performed next June by students in a concert at The Music Center at Strathmore.  

 

Loiederman Middle Students Create Music with Famous Composer, MCPS home page

International composer Jim Papoulis recently conducted a workshop with A. Mario Loiederman Middle School students. Papoulis is developing a commissioned piece for the school, and during the workshop, the students helped compose the text and score of the special song. In the spring, more than 200 student performers will host a concert at the Music Center at Strathmore featuring Papoulis’ music.

Chris Guerra, digital music teacher at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School, has been named Outstanding Music Teacher of the Year by the Maryland Music Educators Association. His choral ensembles have received numerous superior ratings at the county and state levels, and Guerra recently won a spot on the national stage for the school’s flagship ensemble, the auditioned Chamber Choir.

February 15, 2012 Excel Beyond the Bell program gives middle-schoolers a jump-start on life skills
Four days a week, students at Argyle Middle School have an opportunity to stay after school and continue learning.
More time at school might seem like an “opportunity” middle-schoolers would choose to ignore, but nearly half of the Silver Spring school’s 769 students are enrolled in Excel Beyond the Bell, a pilot program organizers hope gives students quality activities and inspires success.
The program, which is also offered at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown and A. Mario Loiederman Middle School in Silver Spring, began in the fall and will run through May 24. It is offered to students in grades six through eight...

 December 30, 2011  Secret group provides random acts of kindness at Silver Spring middle school

Students line up for early morning donuts, a surprise presented to each students and staff member at Mario Loiederman Middle School in Silver Spring on Dec. 23. Wheaton Donuts Inc., which operates several Dunkin' Donuts franchises, donated the treats at the request of The Transformers, a secret group of student leaders dedicated to performing random acts of kindness at the school. 

 

 November 23, 2011  Silver Spring middle school choir sings its way to Dallas  

 The Chamber Choir of A. Mario Loiederman Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Silver Spring has been selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association National Middle School Choral Conference in Dallas from Feb. 29 through March 3, 2012.

June 14, 2011 Program Honors 23 Students for Achievement and Community Service

Twenty-three MCPS students are being honored by the National Carson Scholars Fund, a non-profit organization that promotes academic excellence and humanitarian qualities. The Carson Scholars Fund chose eight MCPS students—ranging from fifth graders to high school juniors—as first-time recipients of the honor, which awards them with a $1,000 college scholarship. Madeline Harlow, Grade 8, A. Mario Loiederman Middle School was a first time winner this year.

The teachers who were interviewed for this project have demonstrated success in meeting MCPS targets for ensuring successful completion of Algebra I by the end of eighth grade. Their students were also interviewed and reflected on ways their teachers helped them be more successful and, in many cases, how they gained more confidence in their abilities. Rockzana Flores applied for a $250,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant and on March 1, Pepsi announced that her grant was a finalist. This grant is for teacher salaries for school year 2011-2012 for ALL three of the Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) schools. Eighty-five MCPS Educators Attain National Board Certification in 2009
Total Number in MCPS Now Reaches 528
Loiederman ESOL Teacher, Tricia Meyer Viladegut, was one of only eighty-five educators in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) who achieved certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in 2009.
