Come meet MCPS School Psychologists! Monday, November 13, 2017 5:00 – 7:00pm at CESC Auditorium (850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville MD)

What is a school psychologist?

School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students at home, in school, and in the community. We apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive environments.

Why do children need school psychologists?

Children and youth face problems related to learning, social relationships, decision-making, or managing emotions. School psychologists help students, families, educators, and community members understand and resolve long-term, chronic problems as well as short-term issues students face.

What do school psychologists do?

School psychologist apply their trainings in both psychology and education to provide direct support and interventions to students, consult with staff, teachers and families to improve supports strategies, consult with administrators, to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate services. School psychologists help schools successfully: improve academic achievement, promote positive behavior and mental health, support diverse learners, create safe and positive school climates, strengthen family-school partnerships, and improve school-wide assessment and accountability.
