Good evening this is Mr.
Rubens calling with your weekly update for the week of October 18th.
Just a reminder for our families. Because of flu-like
illnesses, more students than usual are absent from school. Teaching
and learning are continuing on a normal schedule and health officials
advise that students who are not ill should come to school.
Please be assured that we are taking steps to prevent the spread of flu
in our school. To keep the flu from spreading, it is very important
that sick individuals with flu-like symptoms (fever greater than 100
degrees F with cough or sore throat) stay home until they have been
symptom-free for 24 hours. Children and staff who are sick in school
with flu-like symptoms will be sent home.
In order to ensure that the school can reach you should it be
necessary, please notify us if there are any changes to your phone
numbers or email address.
For the latest information on the flu, please visit the MCPS website at
www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org or call the County’s flu hotline at
240-777-4200.
Here are the highlights for the week...
There is a school bus evacuation drill Wednesday morning before
school. Wednesday, October 21st marks eight days left in the
first marking period. We are encouraging students to check in
and meet with their teachers before school, during lunch, during
advisory or after school. Wednesday evening counselors will
be available for families in need of academic guidance or support, on a
drop-in basis, until 6:30pm here at school. Counselors can
also arrange times for students and parents to meet with
teachers.
On Friday, the 7th grade will travels to the National Zoo for the 7th
grade field trip. Friday evening there is a Latino Study
Circle interest meeting at 6:30pm in the media center.
Finally, I want to make our 8th grade families aware of a
change. We will begin collecting DCC choice forms from
students on November 7th (repeat). The deadline for these
forms to be turned in is Monday, November 9th. Please contact
Ms. Shaw or Ms. Hart with questions.
Thanks and have a great evening.
