Education: B.S. in Early Childhood Education, The University
of South Alabama
M.S. in Math and Science Education, Johns Hopkins
University
This is my
fifteenth year in the classroom and my second year at Colonel E. Brooke
Lee. I went into education because my
mother, aunt, and grandmother were teachers.
When I began teaching, I thought I would work with young children, but
soon discovered I much preferred teaching math to upper elementary or middle
school students.
I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana,
but consider Mobile, Alabama to be home. After graduating from college, I moved to Atlanta and lived there for seven years before moving to Maryland. I have two daughters that keep me very
busy. Both are in elementary school and
like to play sports and dance, so I spend most afternoons driving carpool. When I do have time to myself, I like to
visit museums and I play handbells at my church.
I changed
schools three times in middle school so I was always having
to make new friends. One of the most fun
classes I had in eighth grade was home economics where I learned to sew. I made a shirt for myself that had sleeves
that were uneven, but I still wore it until it fell apart. I also loved math, especially my pre-Algebra
class with Mrs. Lee. She instilled the love for math in me which is what I hope
I can do for at least one student each year. |
