Ms. Hopkins
Music Director

I'm beginning my 33rd year as an educator. My most recent position over the past nine years was as Director of Instrumental Music- at Kennedy High School. Prior to that time I had been both Director of Bands and Choirs in the Prince George's County Schools for over twenty years.

I received my Undergraduate Degree- Bachelor of Science in Music Education at West Chester University- Pennsylvania graduating with honors. My Graduate Degree was attained at the Catholic University of America in the District of Columbia- with the Master of Education in Music . Since that time I've continued the 'life long learning process' while completing coursework through the Prince Georges and Montgomery County Schools Future Administrator Programs- and that of the Bowie State University.

I am a native of the Eastern Shore of Maryland - near a favorite 'vacation spot'- Ocean City. After completing undergraduate school I purposely selected my 'first' teaching position in Berlin, MD- just outside of Ocean City- in order to 'give back' to the kids on the shore. The position was Choral Director at Stephen Decator High School, from which the group not only received honors at the Worcester County Choral Festival, but also received the chance to attend State Choir Festival in Howard County also receiving 'Superior' Honors. With very 'established goals' regarding my educational path, I only spent one year there- as I was accepted at the Catholic University of America and believe it or not, was hired 'part-time' by MCPS to work at the 'old' Clarksburg Elementary School as General- Vocal Music Teacher while attending graduate school full-time. Upon completing the Masters Degree, my greatest desire was to work as an Instrumental Director on the Senior High Level- of which was offered to me with the Arlington County-Virginia Schools in 1979. One of my 'claims to fame' is to speak of having an opportunity to work with Sandra 'Sandy' Bullock at Washington-Lee High School when at that time she assisted our Pom-Poms and Cheerleaders. ( & yes she had 'Major' roles in all of the Drama productions). NO---I do not receive a card during the holidays. :-)

My years at John F. Kennedy provided continuing opportunities to work with the many talented students coming to us from Lee Middle School. I've highly respected the Lee Middle School educational program and look forward to making contributions in Music and Leadership toward continued success for Lee in the future.
