Extended Opportunities
Enriched Media Experience
Students can choose to participate in an Enriched Media Experience during their Junior or Senior Year and have this course apply to the required MediaCom Course requirements. Any course in the school can become an enriched media experience with teacher approval and support and student/teacher designed media experience.

Online and Off-Campus Experiences:
Students in MediaCom are not limited to the courses offered on JFK’s campus. MediaCom is developing partnerships with several universities and school districts to offer a broad range of off-campus and online experiences. Students interested in the program can see Miss Menchetti to discuss options. Such experiences can count towards the required MediaCom Courses if approved by the MediaCom Leadership Team. Students who wish to take an online or off-campus course should fill out the “Online/Off-Campus Experience Form” and submit it to Miss Menchetti by January 15th to ensure course approval before
Capstone Project:
A MediaCom Capstone Project is a student designed or student selected experience that can take the form of an internship, individual project or independent study. MediaCom students will participate in a capstone experience during their senior year or the summer immediately proceeding their senior year under the supervision of a teacher mentor and the Capstone coordinator. The goal of the projects is to provide students with authentic learning experiences, coupled with time to reflect upon individual growth and development.
MediaCom Related Community Service Hours:
As part of their MediaCom experience, students will be required to demonstrate proficiency of both of technical and communication skills via their Community Service Requirement. Students in MediaCom will receive Community Service Hours for sharing their technical expertise with other students, teachers and administrators. Students can earn hours as part of a course’s curriculum, the TechTuesday Program, Participation in EduCorps or as part of a self-developed experience.
MediaCom e-Portfolio:
Students will be required to complete an electronic portfolio (e-Portfolio) as part of their MediaCom experience. Portfolios are reflective collections of student selected work which will demonstrate competency in the six MediaCom principles. Student portfolios are begun during the Connections Course and expand during the student’s term at Kennedy.

- Student Philosophy on education
- Artifacts that show evidence of Meeting Standards
- Reflection of Meeting Standard for each piece of artifact
