INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

IB Program

Early in November, the decision was made to end the Cambridge program at John F. Kennedy High School. Kennedy hopes to replace Cambridge with the International Baccalaureate program and, in an attempt to ensure that incoming freshmen will have the opportunity to participate in the program, has begun the application process.

Members of JFK’s incoming freshman class, the class of 2012, will have the opportunity to take courses in their freshman and sophomore years that infuse IB concepts to prepare students for the prospective IB courses.

  • Pre-IB English
  • Pre-IB Biology
  • Pre-IB Geometry
  • Pre-IB French
  • Pre-IB Spanish
  • Pre-IB Chinese

Pre-IB courses will stress mastery of many of the same skills necessary for successful completion of IB courses. JFK hopes to begin full implementation of the IB program in the fall of the 2010-11 school year.

JFK is excited about the opportunity to apply for participation in the IB program. Students who were interested in attending Kennedy to participate in the Cambridge program will find many similarities between Cambridge and IB. Both are rigorous, challenging college preparatory programs with a global focus. With IB, students are encouraged to pursue higher level courses in a variety of disciplines, which results in a more well-rounded student.
