Special Programs
Here are some of the special activities in which we are involved at Kemp Mill:
During the school day:
Ambassadors – Selected students take new students on tours of the school.
Birthday Books - Every child's birthday is recognized at Kemp Mill and they receive a book gift. (We also celebrate half birthdays so summer birthdays are recognized, too.)
Chorus - We have two voluntary choral groups that meet once a week. The primary chorus is for grade 2 and 3 students, and the upper chorus is for grade 4 and 5 students. Almost all students at these grades participate in this enrichment program.
Dual Language Program - Please follow link for more information regarding Kemp Mill's program developing bilingualism and biliteracy for speakers from English and Spanish speaking homes.
Instrumental Music - Fourth and fifth grade students can elect to participate in our instrumental music program. Students learn to play an instrument and prepare for and participate in musical performances.
Math Olympiads - Upper grade students and selected younger students meet weekly in teams to solve math problems provided to us through this national program.
Safety Patrols - Students in grades 4 and 5 are selected for the important role of School Safety Patrol. They support school, neighborhood, and bus safety on a daily basis.
Technology - Staff and students use technology to solve problems, enhance reading and math skills, explore the universe, and create multimedia productions. Students also have access to a mobile laptop lab.
Wee Deliver - With the support of the U.S. Post Office, we have our own postal system. Students and staff write letters to friends, siblings, and pen pals. Second and third grade postal workers sort and deliver the mail daily. Students apply for positions in the post office and jobs are changed every 9 weeks.
After School Programs -With the support of our PTA and Kemp Mill staff, we hold a variety of after school activities with activity buses available two or three days a week. Activities for primary and upper grade students vary by semester based upon student interest and availability of instructors. Programs have included Drama, Cooking, Soccer, Garden, Science and Hiking Clubs. Parents are welcome to become involved!
