Dear Parents,
As we begin our fourth week of school I want to thank you for your support by sending us your wonderful, well mannered and delightful children every day and for your generosity in providing additional school supplies. We had a wonderful opening and a smooth transition for our 6th graders from elementary to middle school. Thank you to the entire staff for a wonderful opening and a special thank you to our counseling staff who ensured that every child had a complete schedule on the first day of school. Thank you to our 6th grade team of teachers for organizing and chaperoning our SCHMOOZE which was a wonderful afterschool activity for our 6th graders in early September.
Our fall sports season is underway and our intramural programs of boys basketball and girls soccer tournaments are about to begin. Please check the school calendar on the Hoover webpage, listen to the morning announcements or read the announcements online to get up to date information. Additional programs will be starting in October and later in the year. Stay tuned.
On Tuesday October 6th all students will be bringing home a progress report (interim) with current grades in seven classes. The interim provides parents with a midpoint grade and informs parents if a child is in jeopardy of failing a class. Edline is also a source of grade information for all parents. If you have not accessed Edline and need assistance please contact the main office. We want parents to have more access to grades than the one report at the midpoint of each marking period. Edline will provide information about classwork and homework as well as grade data. If you have questions about your child’s progress please contact the counseling office or your child’s teacher.
All parents are invited to Hoover’s Parent Open House on Monday October 12th. Parents are invited to drop in and visit one, two or all classes. Parents will receive additional information soon but please put the date on your calendar. Parent Open House Day is a regular day of school and all classes will be in session. It is not a day for parent conferences with teachers. It is designed for parents to observe classes in session.
Finally, middle school conferences dates are November 11th and 12th. Middle school conferences differ from elementary conferences. Parents who wish to have a conference with at least one teacher may request a conference. Every effort will be made to hold the conference during the two half days. Parents are always encouraged to contact the counseling office to request a conference. Parent conferences are held throughout the year.
Most of the conferences held during the two half days in November are requested by the teachers at each grade level. Selected parents will be contacted later in October to schedule a collaborative conference with several teachers, parents and the student. There will be conference date and time options available to all parents. Details about the conferences will be coming soon. Due to the number of students in each grade level most parents do not have a parent conference during the two half days.
We hope to see all our students (no guests) at our first dance of the year. Please encourage your child to attend the October 23rd Fall Dance from 7-9 pm. There will be plenty of activities, games, and ping-pong so we hope to see all of our students.
Happy Fall!
