Here are some wonderful websites that will teach you about music, music composers, and the history of music.  Make sure you have headphones on to use these websites! 

1.  Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s DSO Kids: Interactive site offers games to learn about composers and when they lived.  You can also listen to music by different composers, and hear pieces played in different instruments. 

2.  The New York Philharmonic Kidzone: This fun interactive site includes games and quizzes. 

3.  San Francisco Symphony for Kids:  Here you can write your own music, learn about musical instruments, and learn about different tempos.conductor 

4.  Playmusic.org – Learn about the instruments, hear them play, and play games. 

5.  Music Animations – Click on any of the signs to see music brought to life with animation. 

6.  Classics for Kids: Learn about music styles, composers and their place in history, includes audio information, games, and music you can listen to. 

7.  Essentials of Music: Provides basic information about classical music, including sound recordings. 

8.  HyperMusic: Here you can look at timelines to find out about the history of classical music and its’ composers, and the history of jazz with its’ composers.  Musical instruments and their families are explored.  Some sound examples are included. 

9.  PBS Kids - Jazz: Learn about the musicians, history and styles of jazz music here.  Play the “Bandleader” game to hear how different groups of instruments sound together.  Hear the different styles of jazz and choose your favorite. 

10. Lift Every Voice - Music in American Life: At this University of Virginia site you can listen to and learn about important periods in American music, including ballads, spirituals, patriotic songs, and musicals.
