If your teacher asks you to cite your sources, use NoodleTools and the hints below each database in capital letters.
Britannica School Edition – An encyclopedia is always a good place to begin
your research. Here you will find basic information that will help you decide how to continue your research. Use the search box to find your topic.
NOODLETOOLS: ENCYCLOPEDIAS ARE CONSIDERED A REFERENCE SOURCE. NOT DUPLICATED FROM A PRINTED WORK.
E-Library – Once you login, click on “My Products” to get to E-Library.
NOODLETOOLS: ONCE YOU CHOOSE YOUR ARTICLE, CLICK ON “CITATION VIEW” IN THE BAR ABOVE THE ARTICLE TITLE TO GET THE CORRECT CITATION. LOOK BELOW THAT CITATION TO FIND OUT WHERE THE ARTICLE IS FROM (MAGAZINE, NEWSPAPER, BOOKS, ETC.)
SIRS DISCOVERER -- Use the search box to search with your key words and look at the colored box to the left of the title to see the reading level for articles.
NOODLETOOLS: CLICK ON “SOURCE AND SUMMARY”. USE THAT INFORMATION TO FIGURE OUT WHERE SIRS DISCOVERER FOUND THIS ARTICLE AND CITE THAT SOURCE (MAGAZINE, NEWSPAPER, ENCYCLOPEDIA, ETC.) RETRIEVED FROM AN ONLINE DATABASE. FOR ENCYCLOPEDIA: YES, DUPLICATED FROM A PRINTED WORK.
Student Resource Center: Use the search box and click on “KEYWORD” for the best results.
NOODLETOOLS: LOOK AT THE TOP TAB AND THE INFORMATION AT THE TOP OF YOUR ARTICLE TO SEE WHAT CITATION TYPE YOU SHOULD USE. ACADEMIC JOURNALS ARE CITATION TYPE “JOURNAL.”
NetTrekker: This is a search engine for finding relevant websites instead of using Google. Search for websites about your issue here.
NOODLETOOLS: CITE THESE PAGES AS WEBSITES – DO NOT CITE NETTREKKER.
Lastly, it might be interesting to see what newspapers looked like in earlier times.
Proquest Historical Newspapers -- To look at New York Times articles in their original format from 1851 through 2005.
NOODLETOOLS: CITE AS NEWSPAPERS.
For articles on plagiarism, look at the Hoover Media Center – Research Resources – last 2 articles.
