Going GreenGoing Green

 Created by K Crossley & L Wong, 12/7/09; updated 01/21/11

This research project’s ultimate goal is to create an environmentally friendly improvement to property in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  You will be researching an environmental issue, and then planning a realistic, research-based approach to solving that environmental concern.  You must also create a NoodleTools bibliography for at least three different resources that you use for this project.  At least one must be from an online database, and one should be from a website.  The third source is your choice.

Books

The books our Media Center owns on the topics below are available on a cart, and can only be checked out overnight.  If your topic is NOT listed below, check our Patron’s Catalog to see if there is a book on your topic.

Databases  - You must cite at least one article from a database. Use the chart below to find which keywords work best in each database.

It is good to begin by using an encyclopedia because they give you clear information to start you on your research.  You can use the print encyclopedias in the media center, or use an online encyclopedia (see below).
NoodleTools:  Encyclopedias are considered a Reference Source. Not duplicated from a printed work Do NOT provide a URL.

World Book Online:  You can use World Book Student or World Book Kids (for an easy-to-read article).  Use the search box to find your topic.  You can also click on a new resource called “Living Green” and then click on a heading that might include your topic.  Look on the left at the Table of Contents for different topics.
Encyclopedia Britannica: Use the search box to find your topic.

SIRS Discoverer - Use the search box to search with your key words and look at the colored box to the left of the title to see the reading level for articles.
NoodleTools:  Click on “SOURCE AND SUMMARY”. Use that information to figure out where SIRS Discoverer found this article and cite that source (magazine, newspaper, encyclopedia, etc.)  Retrieved from an online database. If an encyclopedia: YES, duplicated from a printed work. Do NOT provide a URL.

Student Resource Center - Look at the source tab at the top of your results to decide how to cite your article.  It might be taken from difference sources:  Reference source, Magazine, Journal, News(paper), etc.
NoodleTools:  Cite anything under Reference as: REFERENCE SOURCE. YES, I will provide publication details of the original work. Look at the information at the top of the article to find the information you need. Do NOT provide a URL.
