Family Reading Night
|
On a cool dark November night, a woman was seen dressed in pajamas holding a lantern as she beckoned families and friends to come into Highland View ES to enjoy an evening of reading. It was Dr. Rosenkrans, the school’s Reading Specialist. |
And come they did…

Donning pajamas, furry robes, outlandish slippers, warm woolen blankets and of course, teddy bears, youngsters arrived with their families and scurried off to classrooms for an evening of reading.

Families clustered together, mesmerized by wonderful stories and illustrations.

Many dashed off to their classrooms to listen to a story read by teachers.
Everyone had an opportunity to share a favorite story or select a book from containers brimming with stories, just waiting to be read.

At the end of the evening, everyone gathered in the All Purpose room to enjoy a snack of milk and cookies and to take part in an enthusiastic choral reading of “Good-Night, Owl" by Pat Hutchins. Two acoustic guitarists, Highland View parents Tim Croft and Noah Clements, accompanied Ms. Toth and Mr. Feffer as they lead the group in an adapted version of “Good Night Irene,” written by Ms. Pfaff and Dr. Rosenkrans. Families and friends slipped out into the starry night singing this old, familiar tune.
