Dear Families of Highland View Elementary School:

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter introducing myself as the new Assistant Principal of Highland View Elementary. When our former Community Superintendent, Dr. Morrison, informed me of my appointment for the upcoming school year, he assured me that I would truly enjoy working with this diverse, active community. Since that time, I have heard nothing but great things about Highland View Elementary School from neighbors of the school as well as other MCPS teachers and staff.

I was born and raised in Jackson, Miss., where I graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, a publicly funded boarding school housed on a college campus.  Afterwards I attended Brown University, where I received a dual degree in Educational Studies and Public Policy, and later completed my graduate work at New York University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Throughout my schooling, I was trained in classical ballet, performing with Ballet Mississippi as well as co-directing a student-run dance company while at Brown. I also played the cello throughout my high school years.

As a teacher I taught diverse communities of learners in New York City, Providence, R.I., and Washington, D.C., in both independent schools and public schools; and I was part of the founding faculty of a charter school in Rhode Island. Throughout my experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from very talented and committed educators who have helped to shape my career as a public school educator. For three years, I was awarded the great opportunity to serve the children of Washington, D.C., as an elementary school principal. Last year I joined Montgomery County Public Schools and was honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Rolling Terrace Elementary School.

I truly look forward to working with all of you this year as we continue to develop a nurturing learning environment in which all of our children thrive academically and socially. Thank you for your continued support of Highland View Elementary School as we enter another wonderful school year!

                                             Sincerely,

                                                               Arienne Clark-Harrison
