Folktales (Leyendas)
Folktales are old, old stories that have been passed from parent to child for many generations. Usually they include some element of magic or fantasy.Our folktales come from around the world.
Favorite folktale authors are Verna Aardema and Gerald McDermott. We have many, many versions of Cinderella from all around the world!
Mystery (Libros de misterio)
In a mystery, you try to figure out the answer to a problem by putting together clues the author gives you through the book.
Our favorite mystery series are the Boxcar Children, Chet Gecko Mysteries, Nancy Drew, Petsitters Club, and Encyclopedia Brown. We have these series and more!
Realistic Fiction (Ficción realistica)
Realistic Fiction books are fun to read because the characters seem so real! We have many of these books by many different authors.You might like the sports books by Matt Christopher, adventure books by Gary Paulson, or books about growing up by Vera Williams. There are Black Stallion horse books by Walter and Steven Farley and Misty of Chincoteague horse books by Marguerite Henry. Please let us know what your favorite books are!
Science Fiction (Fantasia científica)
ci-fi books are set in the future. The plot involves some kind of interesting technology, like robots or time machines. We are always looking for more sci-fi books to buy, so let us know if you find a good one at the public library.

Fantasy (Fantasia)
These books are very popular! There is always something in a fantasy book that cannot be real, such as talking animals, people who fly, witches with magic powers, or setting that are not on earth. Reading a fantasy book is like having a wonderful dream! You might enjoy the Redwall books or the Harry Potter books. We also have Arthur chapter books, the Time Warp Trio series, and the Goosebumps books.
Biographies (Biografías)
Biographies are information books about the lives of famous people. They are placed on the shelves in alphabetical order according to the first letter of the last name of the person. For example, books about Martin Luther King are with the "K" books, and books about George Washington are with the "W" books.
Maybe someday you will be famous and someone will write a book about you! We'll put that book with our biographies!
