Media Center

Vision Statement

Our goal is to help every student enjoy reading! In addition, we want children to be able to find and use information to make informed decisions and participate fully in American life.

Nuestro gol es que cada estudiante le encante leer! También queremos que nuestros hijos puedan encontrar y usar información para hacer buenas decisiones y para que puedan participar completamente en la sociedad americana.

About our Books

Each week every student comes to the media center to check out new books. We have 10,000 books to choose from! We have lots of biographies (biografias) and information books (libros informativos) on animals, sports, science, crafts, and places in the world. For students who like a good story, we have many picture books (libros de dibujos), folktale books, and chapter books-- mysteries (libros de misterio), realistic fiction (ficcion realistica), fantasy (fantasia), sci-fi (ciencia ficcion), and historical fiction (ficcion historica). Students may also check out popular magazines and books on tape. To help you choose your favorite type of book, read more about our books here.

About our Classes

Younger classes come to the media center once a week to have classes with Mrs. Buchanan. They study books by popular authors and learn to identify elements of fiction and nonfiction. Sometimes they use technology to get information from the internet or to organize information in colorful, interesting ways. By making connections between books and between what they read and their personal experiences, students develop a love of reading.

Older classes come to the media center for instruction as it fits in with their academic curriculum. They learn how to use the computer catalog of media center materials to find materials that interest them.

Our Book-Lending Policies

Students in Kindergarten-Grade 1 can check out one book a week. Students in grades 2-5 can check out two books a week. All students have the opportunity to check out extra books during winter and spring vacations and the Thanksgiving holiday. If a student loses or damages an item from the media center, he or she must pay for the item before checking out anything else.
